Is it weird to see a teacher as a mother figure? My own mother is well… not a mom, I don’t want to go into detail. But I have this one teacher who I have a bond with and I see as a mom and is that well, weird? Also since you’re a teacher do you actually genuinely care about your students or do you care when they go through hard times or are dealing with rough things like do teachers actually mean it when they tell us they’re there for us?? I’m sorry I’m just curious.

Of course it is okay to see teachers as a mother or father figure.  Bonds of support are natural to happen between teacher and student.  I have worked in low-income areas where I know for a fact I have had a stronger bond with the students than they had with their own families.  Teachers are there to support students in all aspects of life in whatever ways they can.

I definitely care about my students; I have given out my personal phone number to a homeless student who might have needed help over Christmas break before.  This student behaved terribly in class, but I knew what was going on and still cared for them, and wanted them to be safe.
