They gave you their numbers for a reason. I had teachers after I graduated high school who also gave me their contact information. I also felt a bit awkward about it, but soon lost that awkwardness.
It doesn’t have to be an all the time thing. You can check in and give them updates about your life and ask how they’re doing.
If you are uncomfortable, then don’t do it.
