Thank you for this response and differing perspective.
The usual questions I get are about the possibilities of a life together, teachers leaving spouses, and other quite grotesque details I’d rather not remember.

It doesn’t have to be anything big. It could even just be a card. Every person is different.
I just had a student give me a bunch of chocolate, and I appreciated that very much! And, although I do like receiving thanks, I don’t always like receiving gifts because I know the individual student is paying for it or their parent. If anything, I would prefer being rewarded with hard work and a note of appreciation.

Good luck in your education! 🙂

Personally, some all time favourites include Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, Agatha Christine murder mysteries and Bridget Jones’ Diary by Helen Fielding.
More recent pieces I’ve truly enjoyed are The Orenda by Joseph Boyden, The Back of the Turtle by Thomas King and The Lizzie Bennet Diaries by Bernie Su and Kate Rorick.
I’ve been reading a lot of nonfiction this year too, like books by Wab Kinew, Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey and Karl Pilkington, books about Harry Selfridge and Shakespeare, motivational books like The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a Fuck, and other books that I can connect to my teaching, like The Inconvenient Indian and The Outside Circle.
And my favourite Shakespeare play is Hamlet.

Thanks for asking! I enjoyed reflecting on this! 🙂
