Hey, question for you: How do you handle the kids in your class that are far smarter than the others in your class, to the point where they’ve already finished the assignment and may or may not be bothering other kids? I know when I was growing up, my teachers would let me read quietly as long as I finished the assignment.

Doing anything quietly works.  Usually we also have a big project due at the end of the semester that is assigned at the beginning they could work on too.

Why won’t my school help me? I’m a Sophomore in high school and i failed Algebra in freshman year, so my dad got me tested for any learning disabilities, and as it turns out I have dyscalculia and A.D.D. I have all the paperwork and me and my dad have gone to the school multiple times and told them to take me out of both my algebra and geometry class and instead put me in a double algebra class. I just don’t understand why they won’t? It could actually help me, but they don’t want to

Keep pushing them to do something.  If they don’t, go above them to the school board.  They have to follow your needs.

What do teachers think about students with mental illness? I know every teacher has like 200 students, but in your experience can you tell based on personality traits or behaviors? It feels like they think it’s more of a hassle because of excess absences and late work. In general I’m curious to know what teachers really do think tho, because many kids don’t LOOK depressed or anxious but have severe issues that can fly under the radar and I don’t wanna look like it’s for attention :/

Teachers should be understanding.  We are not mind readers so we can’t always tell.  You should talk to your teachers to explain what is going on.  It won’t be an “excuse” or for “attention.”  You need to focus on your mental health, and sometimes school needs to come second.
