I work in a pretty safe community, so I am not afraid of any of my students. However, there are some students who cause issues, and I hope that they wouldn’t cause anything big in my class, or in anyone’s class for that matter. If the school is a supportive community that respects the students, there shouldn’t be any issues like this.

Are you ever afraid of your students? I guess your answer will reflect more where you teach but still.

Do you get annoyed when students are extremely quiet?
Somewhat, yes. In particular, when I’m trying to invoke a discussion or a collaborative activity, it can be frustrating. Normally, I hold a collaborative activity that is just for fun, not really related to the class, near the beginning of the course to get them talking and collaborating, which usually works.

How would you feel if a student committed suicide?
I would feel heartbroken, whether I knew the student or not. The school environment has failed to provide safety and inclusion for all students, and I am part of that school environment. I would hope that the school community would be open enough for all students to feel comfortable talking to at least one caring adult.

Do you like it when students can make you laugh?
LOVE IT! Some of the most memorable moments are when students make me laugh, particularly in the middle of a lesson where everything has to stop because we are all laughing.

Do you like hearing about your students stories about things that happened outside of class?
LOVE IT! That makes the class more interesting. I want to know about the students’ lives outside of school to be able to connect work to them, and show them that I care about them.
