Hi! Last year, I developed a pretty good relationship with my teacher; we found a lot of common ground and had really enjoyable convos. I consider him a good mentor and influence in my life. Unfortunately, I won’t be having him again this year. Is it okay for me to stop by and talk to him every once in a while? I don’t want to bother him if he has other things to work on. Thanks!

Of course!  I’m sure he’d like that too!  We’re humans!

You can always ask him if it’s a good time to stop in; he could always tell you if he’s too busy, but tell you another time to come back.  Also, we have so much stuff to do that a student visit like this is usually a welcome interruption.

Would you recommend teaching as a career? I’m a freshman in college and am debating it since I’ve had so many teachers that have inspired me and taught me so much about life and were such great role models. I know Summer’s off is a bonus but I feel like the job market isn’t very good and teachers are increasingly getting treated poorly. But overall would you recommend it? Thank you

I truly enjoy what I do.  There’s a lot of crap with parents, admin, job market, but  I love it.  You would have to decide for yourself what you want to do.  Just because I recommend it doesn’t mean it’s good for you.  If you truly want to teach, you can work through the crap.  Take some time to volunteer in schools, talk to some teachers you know, and see if you enjoy it.

I’m the anon that asked about a teacher being involved with a past student. I wasn’t asking for validation, as one of the comments suggested, I was wondering if he would be at risk of losing his job if I told anyone because his advances made me very uncomfortable and I think it is borderline inappropriate and I wonder how many of his younger students he looks at in that light. I think it’s still predatory to actively wait until a girl is “legal” for you. I have screenshots of him asking me (p1)

.. Asking me to come to his house, and telling me graphically what he wanted to do, because I needed a “real man”. And I highly doubt I’m the only girl he has done this to. It should also be noted that I did receive special treatment as a student, he would let me leave detentions, wouldn’t punish me at all for being out of class during class time and his nickname for me was always “Princess”. Every time.

I can’t say for sure if someone would lose their job (I think they should, but can’t say they actually would), but what he is doing to you is still wrong.  If you are feeling harassed, call the police.  Block him and limit contact.
