Just strike up a conversation about something you’re interested in and ask what he likes. It won’t seem creepy, unless you’re 2 inches from his face when you ask. Good luck!

Hi I have a question I really hope you don’t mind, I’m in my last year of high school, and I’m really close with one of my teachers, he’s really lovely to me and he’s supported me through everything I’ve been through in the past 3 years, I wanted to get him a gift, but I’m not sure of his interests, how do I ask without seeming creepy? I feel like if I just ask what his hobbies are I might seem weird? Thank you

This is for that English teacher who’s burning out/working all the time. I remember feeling very similar my first year of teaching. My roommate from teacher’s college & I were talking and she commented saying that she was reserving one day a week for just “me” time. She would go to the movies, watching TV, whatever. But it was FOR HER. Not school. It sort of woke something in me and I started to do the same. It helped a LOT. Give yourself some “ME” time. Even if you think you can’t afford it

Your blog is brilliant btw! I was wondering how you decided to teach the subject you do as i wish to teach in secondary education but am still torn between several subjects? In terms of current qualifications i’ve kept my options fairly open by pursuing all the possible subjects i wish to teach, however for my degree i’ll have to narrow it down greatly and i just don’t want to regret what i chose. If you could get back with advice it would be appreciated. Thanks for working hard as a teacher! :)

For me, it was my major and minor in my Bachelor of Arts degree, but I have earned many more qualifications since then. Research your area to see what you can do with qualifications after becoming a teacher.

Start what? Looking for jobs? Figure out where you want to teach, send emails to people, ask people you know to put in a good word for you, apply for jobs, volunteer, get out there!

On my application there’s a place to upload a personal statement and a resume, but there’s five additional spaces to upload any other works that may be relevant to my assessment. Would you upload anything? If you did what would you include? I already have an online teaching portfolio, so I’m debating about including more work.
Always showcase what you have done. Include some highlights from your portfolio that will catch their attention.
