I start my student teaching in two weeks I am am so scared and nervous. Do you have any advice?

I have received a lot of messages about student teaching, so here’s an answer to everyone.

First of all, good luck!

Be yourself.  Show that you care about kids.  I had the chair of my department say to me that all she cares about is that a teacher cares about kids, and then everyone can work together to help make lessons, curriculum planning, etc, work.  Be confident in your abilities.  Ask for help!  Don’t be scared that people, especially your associate teacher, will look down on you if you ask for help.  We can’t do things alone.

Good luck!!

I don’t know how it is where you’re but in the UK we’re able to get 1-2 hours of homework a night from each subjects we do.. However many you do.. What is your opinion on this?

I do not assign homework.  All work I assign can be done in class.  If students are absent or waste their time during class, then work will have to be completed on their own time.  The only time I give “homework” is if students need to read books.  I always give silent reading time in class, but reading outside of class is usually the reality when studying English.

I know students have busy lives outside of school, and I am only supposed to grade and mark their work done in class.  I believe that studying and work at home is necessary for success in education and in the future, but I will not assign work that needs to be completed the next day for marking, etc.
