I would talk to them privately and direct them to guidance, which has more supports and resources than I do. I would tell them that I was available to chat whenever they needed.
ask
As a teacher, what would you do if you saw a student’s self-harm scars or cuts/burns?

I’m a primary teacher from Australia and your blog is an accurate description of my life. Your hilarious gif posts vastly improved my tedious evening of laminating and marking. Thanks from the other side of the globe :)
Great to hear! Hello from this side of the globe! 🙂

How would you react if a student started crying in class out of nowhere
It always depends on the situation. I’ve had students crying quietly where they excuse themselves and I speak with them after. I’ve had students where they don’t leave, and I go and speak to them quietly or out in the hall. I have not had anyone start bawling during class, but I am sure I would know how to react in the moment. It is difficult to say before the situation has occurred.
