I don’t know what EVERY SINGLE teachers’ pet peeve is, but mine would have to be the use of cell phones in class. I have banned them in my class this semester. You really can’t go 2 seconds without texting or playing a game? They can easily become addictive and distract you from the world around you. Use your time in class, don’t get lost in a virtual world.

My teacher makes me so uncomfortable because I always catch him staring at me or glancing at me during lectures. When he’s speaking to the class, he only looks at me and it’s like he’s directing his words towards me. I don’t know what to say or do because I don’t want to overreact…
This is an uncomfortable situation. Try to notice if he does look around. I remember thinking my teachers/professors would only be looking at me, but that would just be when I noticed I caught their eye, yet they would look around the room throughout class. Try to speak to him, or another teacher that you have a close relationship with, to discuss your concerns if you do discover that he is, in fact, only looking at you.

I try to encourage my students to communicate with me if some things have been going wrong or they’ve been having a bad day, so hopefully I would know ahead of time. This doesn’t always happen though, so I would try to talk to them after class about what’s going on.

Did your mother ever influence your decision to become a teacher? My mother is really pushing me to become one, and I’m just not sure!!!
You need to figure out what you want to do. YOU ONLY. You have to live your life, not another person. If you are unsure, try volunteering in some schools. if you don’t like it, then you know it’s not for you. Follow what you are PASSIONATE about. If you do something you aren’t interested in, you will not be happy in whatever you are doing.

There are teacher strikes right now in my province and so we haven’t gone back to school yet and people are thinking it might be another month until we do. I feel really bad for all the teachers since they are not getting paid and the government is refusing to budge. It’s just overall really sad for everyone.
I’ve been following this story somewhat. My province’s teachers also have a heated relationship with the government, and are looking to yours for some precedence. It’s a difficult situation, and no one is happy. Teachers WANT to teach, but there is a lot of poor legislation and handling. It’s too bad that the public and the government sometimes blow things out of proportion. Hopefully things are resolved soon!
