Do teachers actually get mad when students attempt to correct them? One time I tried to because I was genuinely confused. However, I may have sound more snobby about it then I meant to because he didn’t react well to it. I feel really bad about it. For future situations like this (if they occur) what’s the best way to go about it? Ignore? Apologize after class? Idk…

No, I don’t mind when students correct me.  It brings up the fact that teachers are human too and that everyone makes mistakes.  I usually joke around and say, “I just did that to see who was paying attention,” but it doesn’t bother me.  And it is true that everyone makes mistakes, so it shouldn’t be a big deal.

If this happens to you and the teacher doesn’t seem to approve, you could privately discuss with the teacher after class that you just wanted to clarify your own understanding and appreciate the teacher’s clarification.

I have ADD, and My parents won’t get me medication because they think that my doing bad in school has no link to the disorder, and I should just be slightly more fidgety, but the bottom line is I am just passing two classes, I go in for extra help, I do all my homework, but I just can’t pay attention in class, and I forget lots of things like turning in homework. I try so hard, I’m afraid my teachers don’t see it. Is there any way I can do more than just barely pass classes?

Make sure you are communicating with your teachers.  Tell them your concerns, how you’re trying hard, but that it is difficult to focus sometimes.  They might have some strategies to help you, or even accommodate your needs in their teaching.  Keep working hard and show them that you’re dedicated.  You can do it!

What are your thoughts on special ed teaching? My younger brother (he’s on the autism spectrum) has a teacher who isn’t very patient with the students, and I was wondering how you might handle a situation like that.

My brother has autism too, so it affects me personally when teachers are not understanding of exceptional students.  I treat every student as an individual, and form my teaching around their needs.  I help each and every individual student be successful in their own ways.

a teacher at my school always makes insulting jokes about students to their face. the other day, he wanted to talk to me so he told another student to tell me that he wanted the ugliest girl at the table to go up to his desk. i know he was joking, but it still hurt. i’m a little more forgiving, but i think you shouldn’t be making fun of students, especially teenagers, as we’re insecure and it’s just plain rude. those kind of jokes aren’t funny but i don’t know how to tell him he needs to stop

I’m sorry this happened to you.  To begin, I would talk with your teacher privately about how his comments make you feel.  Don’t be accusatory, but express your feelings.  If this does not work, then go to a caring adult in the building to share your thoughts, because this should not be happening to you or anyone else in the school.
