Will my teacher tell my parents if I am suicidal?

A teacher is supposed to if they follow protocol.  However, it wouldn’t just be your parents, it would be guidance, social workers, counsellors, etc to help you.  A teacher can keep some things confidential, but anything you tell them that involves the harm of yourself or others, they need to bring it to others for the good of everyone.

If you are feeling suicidal, please reach out to someone you trust who can help you and put you in the right direction.

University student, hi! I have a problem. I think my teacher is flirting with me. Hear me out in this one. He used to just compliment me, but now he is offering me rides, buying me presents for birthday&christmas and talking to me in public etc. he’s kind of young (not too old) and we get along really well but I’m just not comfortable with how he’s behaving. It’s not suitable and I want to tell him that I am uncomfortable with his actions. How can I do this?

This is not okay at all.  I would say flat out to him that his actions make you uncomfortable, and you would prefer teacher/student boundaries.  You need to voice your opinion and feelings.  If his actions persist, you may have to involve administration.

(Sorry for the long message)I have this Tutor for science and he’s really good but occasionally he stands or sits really close to me or puts his hand on my shoulders or on my lower back. He also links everything to sex when explaining things- even when it has nothing to do with sex or reproduction. I’ve never seen any of his other students so don’t know if he’s like this with everyone or just me. What should I do?

If you are uncomfortable, then it is just that: uncomfortable.  Talk with him about how you are uncomfortable with his words/actions.  If he wants to be paid for this job, he will respect your boundaries.  If he does not, it’s time to find a new tutor.

I start my student teaching in two weeks I am am so scared and nervous. Do you have any advice?

I have received a lot of messages about student teaching, so here’s an answer to everyone.

First of all, good luck!

Be yourself.  Show that you care about kids.  I had the chair of my department say to me that all she cares about is that a teacher cares about kids, and then everyone can work together to help make lessons, curriculum planning, etc, work.  Be confident in your abilities.  Ask for help!  Don’t be scared that people, especially your associate teacher, will look down on you if you ask for help.  We can’t do things alone.

Good luck!!
