I came out to one of my teachers as transgender recently, and she’s been really cool about it, but I’m wondering if maybe she’s not actually cool about it and she’s just acting like she is? I know you obviously can’t speak for her, but if a student came out to you how would you react/feel?

If she’s acting like she is cool about it, then she likely really is cool about it.  You cannot control people’s feelings, but she seems to be supporting you.

I would support the student in any way that I can.

Hello! It’s an absolute pleasure to have you pop up on my dashboard! I am a high school senior and I want to pursue my dream of being a 5th grade teacher in college by majoring as a K- Generalist. I have taught 3 years, but as a religious education teacher, which entails loads of history of the religion. But I wanted your advice, as someone who has been through the system, of what I should focus on during college and what type of program I should strive to get in to?

It depends where you are from and what is available.  I majored in the subject I enjoy most to get my BA, and then took my BEd.  It will most likely be very different where you are from.  You will have to research your options.

Yo so I have this wonderful teacher who might be retiring this year. I’m talented at her subject and she is determined I will take it up for A-Level. I told her I wouldn’t take it up unless she stayed (if she stayed she WOULD be my teacher). She told me ‘maybe I’ll stay just for you’. I don’t know if she would be serious but she said the same thing to my parents and she told them that ‘we click’ and that ‘we gel’. As a teacher yourself do you think she would actually consider staying? Thanks :)

It is up to her.  You’re taking the subject for the wrong reasons if it is just to have her as a teacher.  It is also putting her in an awkward position because she is set to retire based on what is best for her.  If you like this subject and consider it beneficial, then it will not matter whether it is her teaching it or not.  It may be helpful, but there are other good teachers.

So I’m currently at a really small high school (about 280 kids) and I am thinking of switching to a bigger school. But I’m wondering if small schools or big schools are better to go to. If you could help me out that would be great. Thanks :)

This is all about perspective and what you prefer.  I attended a large school, but have only worked in small schools.  Would you prefer more course selection in order to help you in the future?  If so, a bigger school might be a better option.  Would you prefer more opportunities for extra-curricular activities and sports?  If so, your smaller school would be a better option.  If you have a school in mind, see what they have to offer and reflect on it.
