No, you do not. I would say you just need to find your niche, meaning what grade levels you are more comfortable with, and that is what will work for you, and being in front of a class becomes easier with time. I sometimes speak too fast, say “um” a lot, forget what I’m saying, forget what words come next in a sentence, so it’s all good. We don’t expect our students to be perfect, so don’t expect it out of yourself either. We can only do our best.

Do you have to be perfect at public speaking to be a teacher?

Do you notice if a student genuinely dislikes you/ another teacher
Usually. Most times, the student is just having a bad day/experience, and are fine other times.

Hey there, I’m curious about what teachers generally think when they see a student write or read about Columbine, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, etc.? Thanks.
No idea. I do not live in the United States. I would think they are trying to learn more information about what happened if I saw any students researching those tragic events.

if one of your students was to ask you for help with some stuff they were dealing with, would you be willing to offer it or would you find them a massive problem?
Of course I would be willing to help. It might be a problem if they ask me for immediate assistance when I am in the middle of something, but I would always tell them that we can discuss at a later time.

So I know you don’t teach math, but right now I’m having a very difficult time in it. I am in grade 12 pre calculus and I am feeling terrible anxiety towards it to the point where I feel physically sick. I need this credit to graduate so I need to stick it out, but I can’t continue on feeling like this. Do you have any tips on calming down for tests or any advice to make this easier for me?
I have been there before with getting so worked up about something I become sick. What did it accomplish? Nothing, other than making me further behind and more upset and sick.
Talk with your teacher regarding suggested strategies for studying or to move through the work. Just remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If you don’t do well on one part of it, take some breaths, relax, find out where you went wrong, and move on to tackle the next part. We can’t all be perfect at everything, but hard work, effort and moving on will help you.
You can do it!
