Our teacher is making us read gore and horror (ex: Stephen King). Do you think she’d agree to give me some other work that’s not horror if I asked?

It doesn’t hurt to ask!  I’ve made different arrangements for some students before.  You could ask your teacher what the goal is by the end of the course for reading the book and work together to find another option, or try your best to get through the book.

My chemistry teacher has a really bad accent and I struggle everyday to actually understand what he is saying. Is this fair ?

I would ask him politely after class if you could meet with him to discuss some concepts in more depth.  You could also express your concerns and that you need some extra help because of it.  If you do so nicely, your concerns shouldn’t be met with anger.  You still have a right to learn!  Good luck!

Hi there! I was just wondering – do you know of any diabetic teachers (on tumblr or otherwise)? I’m in college planning on going into education after graduation but I’m a type one diabetic and was just wondering how teachers deal with it if they have issues during the school day but I don’t really know where to even find any. Thanks so much! Also awesome blog! :)

I don’t know of any on tumblr, but I do have a friend who just monitors what she needs to do.  She informs her class of her condition and that if she’s ever in distress she may have to do something during class time.  She is usually pretty good about working around class times.

Any other thoughts out there?

If you build a really good rapport/relationship with a student and you know they’re going through a rough time, do you ever think about them or wonder how they’re doing outside of school hours? Do you ever wish you weren’t as restricted in terms of how much you can talk to them?

I sometimes wonder about them outside of school hours, but not so much about talking to them.  I will help any way I can, but it is still really important to keep boundaries for both ethical and personal reasons.
