I’m currently in school on my way to becoming a teacher (which I’m so excited to do and have wanted to since 4th grade) but sometimes when I start thinking ahead to when I actually teach I start to panic thinking it’s too much. I get overwhelmed by all the lesson plans that I have to come up with from scratch to meet all the standards. Is it as bad as it seems or will it easier (at least after a little practice)? It just seems like there is so much to remember.

What are you currently good at?  Did that come easy?

Everything takes practice.  I’m nervous every new semester, and still sometimes during the year when I’m trying something new.  Sometimes it can be overwhelming, but we all work through it!

Get some practicum experience, talk to teachers from your region and keep working hard!

Good luck!  Take one day at a time 🙂

How do you handle students with severe anxiety and presentations? For some it’s so detrimental to their health & a lot of teachers I know have brushed it off. Was just wondering from your recent post on how you handle it. Thank you! :)

I always encourage students to do their best and we collaborate on what is best for them, while also still challenging them slightly.  There’s no learning or improvement without a challenge.  I have found in these instances that some students rise to the challenge, or even surpass it.

Teachers at my school have also met with former students who have had anxiety who have given feedback that they wish they had been more challenged with presentations, because now they are forced to do them at work and have no preparation skills, and do not know how to deal with their anxiety in those situations when their job is on the line.

Here are some other posts about presentations that I have made:

How would you feel if a student at the end of the year wrote you a one page letter telling you how much they have appreciated you and the lasting impact that you have made on them. Is it viewed as weird that it was one page long or is it appreciated?

This would be very appreciated.  I have been lucky enough to receive such a thing in my career already.

Would you like to receive a letter telling you about all of the wonderful things you do?  We are all human!

Hey, as a teen wanting to become a teacher, what’s the tips and stuff I need to do to some how get annoying teenager to pay attention in a history lesson?

Well, you can’t just make kids read a textbook or go through a lesson with facts.  It is about making history come alive and the main way to do this is to show passion for what you’re teaching.

When you learn more about history and what makes it great, and when you go through teacher training, you will learn more about classroom management, as well.

However, there are sometimes students who are just apathetic and will not pay attention.  Don’t take it personally.

Good luck in your path!
