What’s your favorite part about being a teacher?

The power over children.

Just kidding!

The most rewarding thing for me is getting through to a reluctant or challenging learner – where they feel successful for what they have accomplished and feel like they can carry on with the motivation of succeeding.

That little blip of a smile of a student’s face for what they are capable of make all the bad days worth it.

I’m at the point of needing to consider my career options and being a teacher is definitely up there. Is it a good job? what a things I need to consider?

This is a huuuuge question.  Ask some people you know and who live near you, and get involved in some events near you to experience working with children for yourself.

I answered a question somewhat similar to this awhile ago: http://teachinginreallife.tumblr.com/post/125928965628/hi-so-im-thinking-about-getting-into-teaching#notes

I’m currently an education major, and I love your blog! I have a professor who keeps giving me a higher grade than I deserve. I’ll point it out to him, and he just smiles and says “dot worry about it” or “you deserve it.” I have no clue why he keeps doing it, but he does. I’ve spoken with him about my morals and how I consider this cheating on my part. He just told me “you work hard. Relax” and that’s it. I don’t know what to do. I appreciate the help, but I’d like to succeed on my own. ???????

What makes you think you don’t deserve the grades you’re receiving?  I found that nearly everyone earned 90%+ on assignments for our Bachelor of Education program.  You could try having a discussion with your professor about expectations for assignments so you can both come to an understanding of what’s expected.  Good luck.
