I’m finishing school in two months, and I have this teacher whose like a mentor and role model to me. We’ve known each other for years and we connect quite well together. Would it be proper if I wanted to keep in touch with her after I left school?

This would be acceptable, yes.  I like it when my students keep in touch with me.  Just ask if you could still send your teacher some emails after you graduate; I’m sure it would be fine 🙂
