Hi, I love your Tumblr page, it is refreshing to see some students have cool teachers (my teachers are rather boring). But people tend to see teachers as machines, have you ever experienced this? And do your pupils know you have a tumblr, or do they have no idea? (Sorry, english is not my native language)

Do you mean machines, as in not having any feelings or outside stresses?  Sometimes this occurs where too much is expected out of teachers, but I have had to manage it as best I can.

You could ask previous teachers about their experiences to try to figure out if teaching is for you.  The best way to do so is to volunteer in classrooms to see if you enjoy working with students.  You need to find something that you enjoy doing.  You can figure out specific careers later, but find something you’re passionate in by researching and trying new things.

I’m in ap Lang and it seems like my teacher isn’t really teaching,all he does is makes us read books and learn only 15 vocab words a week. While all the other ap classes are writing essays every week and answering ap styled questions. We’ve only had 2 essay so far and no practice questions. I’m really scared for the exam at the end of the year, everyone says his class always gets the lowest scores. Should I ask another teacher for practice and help?

You could do that.  I think your first step is to talk to your own teacher and express your concerns as to how you’re feeling, rather than accusations of his actions.  If the situation does not change, you could try to seek a tutor.

I’ve thought about being a teacher but I don’t think I have the patience to be able to teach. Do you consider yourself a patient person? Also, what made you decide to want to pursue a career in education?

There are moments or days when I lose my patience, but generally I am patient.  I would not be patient dealing with elementary school students, however.  I have helped out in all different elementary grades, and I get easily frustrated when students don’t know certain information, like what number comes after 5 or how to spell “the.”  It always depends on the situation and what aspects of teaching you prefer.  Try volunteering in classrooms to see what you’d prefer and if you could handle it.
