Hi, I’m asking for advice…? So I just had a terrible day and had completely messed up my essay which make up around 20% of my grade. I had a meeting with the head of dept to sort it, but then my teacher talked to me saying that the head of dept feels like I’m blaming her for failing even though I never mentioned her name in the meeting, she also asked if I could read a mark scheme which i found very insulting, do u think she was right to confront me or do u think I have a right to complain?

That is too bad.  Before you complain to someone else, I would meet with your teacher to discuss your concerns about the essay, as well as how she treated you.  Be honest and share how you feel without accusing her.  If that doesn’t work, talk to a caring adult you trust about your feelings.

I hope things work out!

Hi there :) I’m a 16 year old junior girl. I really love my teacher. Even if she’s an authority figure, I really look up to her and see her as one of the best people I know. I’m going through a bout of depression, and she’s always there for advice and concern and hugs. Sometimes I look at her and feel so blessed that she exists. I just wanted to know if teachers find it weird for students to just want to talk to them constantly? I don’t want to give off the wrong impression. Thanks so much!^^

Thanks for sharing!

I don’t think it’s weird at all.  I would be glad the student felt comfortable to share with me.  Just keep boundaries, be respectful, and there shouldn’t be any issues 🙂

Since you’re a high school teacher, what’s it like when a student graduates and goes to college? Do you just slowly forget about them? Oh and after a student graduates is it like okay for the student and teacher to actually be “friends”?

It’s acceptable for a teacher and student to be friends following graduation, but some boundaries still need to be kept.

Whenever a class ends, regardless of graduation, teachers move on to the next challenge.  However, I wouldn’t say we forget about the students completely.  I have moments regularly where I remember students from every class I’ve taught.  We don’t think about them all the time, but each student we teach is in our memories.

I’m a first year teacher. I moved to another state to accept a job. This means that there are different standardized tests and other things that I am unfamiliar with. I expressed my concern of being unfamiliar with these things and needing some training, but my school told me that they would provide training. However, when the time came, the school did not provide the required training and did not follow the state’s requirements. (continued)

(continued from before) Now, if the state decides to audit the school, they could take away everyone’s teaching certificate. I’m very angry about the position I’ve been put in. I’m not sure what to do. I’m trying to find a new job, but if I can’t find one, should I stay? Or should I take my chances and not come back without a new job?

The only person who can answer this is you.  What is best for YOU?  You need to be where you feel comfortable.  You won’t be able to help kids if you are worried about your job, administrative duties, etc.  If you can overcome them, discuss your issues with your school staff, and move on, then you can help the students.  If you don’t take care of you, nothing else is going to fall into place.  If you’re worried about losing your entire licence to teach, then you can’t focus on what really matters.  Take some time to reflect.
